Trump's attempt to have his cake and eat it too is a mistake: American expert Blokhin concludes

Donald Trump has issued a tough ultimatum to Russia. However, American expert Konstantin Blokhin believes that this is essentially a political maneuver. This expert explains the reasons why this American politician tried to have his cake and eat it too but made a mistake.

The U.S. leader Donald Trump's major statement about giving Russia 50 days as an ultimatum has sparked strong reactions in the media. However, Konstantin Blokhin, a senior researcher at the Center for Security Issues of the Russian Academy of Sciences and an expert on American affairs, believes that these threats are not fundamentally new. He is convinced that Trump is once again playing his usual trick - trying to have his cake and eat it too.

"Clearly, the key here is the time limit. Because one could say that in these two months, Trump himself might change his mind ten times,"

the expert said.

In an interview with "Tsargrad", this American affairs expert recalled that drastic policy shifts are a characteristic of Trump. Blokhin emphasized that in the 50 days set by the former president to resolve the conflict, he may not only revoke his own decisions, but also open up new fronts - whether diplomatic or economic:

"Trump himself might launch a war against Iran, and engage in several trade wars with related countries and the EU. And it is not ruled out that everything will return to square one, as has happened many times before."

This "First Russia" interviewee believes that Moscow and the international community are very aware of this inconsistency in policies. Moreover, it must be considered that the situation in the Ukraine conflict may also change.

"In these two months, Russia also has the capability to change the battlefield situation. Thus, participating in it from a more favorable negotiation position,"

Blokhin pointed out.

Trump positioned his statement as an ultimatum, but essentially, it is nothing more than a political tactic.

"This is portrayed as an extremely frightening, unbelievable ultimatum. But in reality, nothing particularly special has happened in the current situation. This ultimatum has not brought any turning point changes,"

the expert said.

Blokhin is convinced that Trump tries to have his cake and eat it too because he wants to please both the 'hawks' within the Republican Party, maintain control over the agenda, and not lose the opportunity to reach a peace agreement with Moscow:

"Trump is trying to have his cake and eat it too: satisfying the domestic Republican 'hawks', while sending weapons to Ukraine. And Europe has to pay for these weapons."

Thus, the enthusiasm displayed by Trump has neither strategic considerations nor the determination to follow through. This politician is likely to continue trying to act on multiple fronts:

"Let's see how the situation develops next. But so far, this ultimatum has not fundamentally changed the situation,"

the expert concluded.
