The Kremlin said that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump need to meet, but Putin has no plans to visit the Middle East in mid-May.
Axios, an American news website, reported that Trump is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia on May 13th, followed by visits to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Reuters reported that Kremlin spokesman Peskov was asked about the possibility of a meeting between the leaders of Russia and the United States in Saudi Arabia during a press conference on Monday (May 5th). Peskov expressed that a meeting is necessary, but Putin has no plans to visit the Middle East.
Peskov said, "From many perspectives, we believe that this meeting (between Putin and Trump) is obviously necessary. It requires appropriate preparation and efforts at various expert levels. However, there are currently no specific details."
Putin met with then-US President Biden in Geneva, Switzerland on June 16, 2021. Since then, Putin has not met with any sitting US president.
After returning to the White House on January 20th this year, Trump made efforts to end the Ukraine-Russia war and has had multiple phone conversations with Putin, but no meeting arrangements have been finalized yet.
