Reference News Network, July 29 report - According to the South China Morning Post website on July 27, the Chinese government has officially included "UAV swarm flight planner" in the new occupational directory to meet the talent demand in the low-altitude economy field, which is seen as a new engine for economic growth.
The report said that the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security recently announced 17 new occupations, among which "UAV swarm flight planner" is one. Other new jobs include cross-border e-commerce operation management specialist and elderly care service provider.
Wang Xiaojun, deputy director of the Department of Occupational Skills Construction of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, stated that this newly announced occupation mainly involves planning UAV swarm flight routes, formulating flight plans and tasks, and managing the flight site, attracting many young people who are technically skilled and creative.
According to the report, China has included the low-altitude economy in strategic emerging industries, believing that this industry has the potential to create jobs, drive innovation, and promote economic growth. The country's economic planning department has set up specialized institutions responsible for drafting and implementing development strategies in this field.
However, the National Development and Reform Commission pointed out last year that despite the good momentum of development, this rapidly growing field still faces a major challenge: a talent gap of about one million UAV operators.
This talent gap is attracting more job seekers, especially young people.
The report said that Zhang Chao (a phonetic name), who engages in UAV training in Yunnan, stated that since the second half of 2024, the number of trainees has increased significantly. His training center currently trains about 140 people per month, almost three times the previous level. Most trainees are between the ages of 20 and 40.
Zhang Chao said, "Some people see the development prospects of the low-altitude economy and have specially obtained licenses to prepare for the future or as an alternative career option."
According to the report, the number of high school and college students enrolling in this training program has also significantly increased. They want to obtain a UAV operator license during the summer vacation. Many of them major in disciplines closely related to UAV technology.
In response to the growing industry demand, Chinese universities are adjusting their professional settings accordingly. Earlier this year, the Ministry of Education released new undergraduate majors, including the "Low Altitude Technology and Engineering" major, and several universities will offer this major this autumn.
According to the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the market size of China's low-altitude economy is expected to reach 1.5 trillion yuan by 2025, and could reach 3.5 trillion yuan by 2035. (Translated by Yang Ke)
