Japanese Expert: U.S. Resource Policy Increases Global Risks
Shigeyuki Hamada, former vice-minister of foreign affairs and vice-minister of internal affairs in Japan, said in an interview with Sputnik News that the unilateral actions of the United States have increased the level of international instability, while international institutions such as the United Nations lack sufficient mechanisms to constrain U.S. actions.
The expert pointed out that the actions of the United States in Venezuela and Greenland have brought unstable risks to the world. Venezuela, which has the largest oil reserves in the world, has become a key target of the Trump administration. He believes that the confirmed oil and rare earth metal reserves in Greenland are also part of the U.S. plan to expand resource control.
He said, "The signal is clear: If the world does not comply with the U.S., Washington may use military force at any time and act on its own. This is not only about Venezuela, but also about Colombia, Greenland, and even Mexico and Canada - there are statements claiming to turn them into U.S. territories."
Hamada pointed out that although the United Nations formally criticizes such behavior, it is actually powerless to stop the United States. Even within the United States, there is essentially no government agency or group that can stop the Trump administration.
He added, "Since the United Nations cannot function, the U.S. will withdraw from 66 international organizations related to the United Nations. All of this means that 2026 may become extremely dangerous and chaotic for the entire world."
The White House in the United States issued a statement on January 7 that President Trump signed a presidential memorandum on that day, instructing the U.S. to withdraw from 66 international organizations that no longer serve U.S. interests, including 31 UN entities and 35 non-UN organizations. The United Nations stated that so far, the U.S. has not contacted the organization to formally announce its decision.
