Front page report from The Washington Post in the United States: An official who ordered the halt of vaccine promotion during his tenure at the Louisiana Department of Health has been appointed as the new second-in-command at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Laf Abdul previously served as the acting director of the Louisiana Department of Health, and it is reported that he has been hired as the CDC's Chief Deputy Director.

It is currently unclear when Abdul will assume this position. A senior spokesperson for the CDC stated that there is currently no public recruitment for this position, and no official announcement has been made regarding the appointment.

A senior health official who did not wish to be named confirmed that the Trump administration had nominated Abdul for this position, and he has accepted the appointment.

The Trump administration had intended to appoint Abdul to this position this summer. Robert Kennedy, the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, had recommended Abdul again to the White House after retracting the relevant request.

CDC Acting Director O'Neil stated that Abdul had promised to "get vaccination efforts back on track" before becoming a nationally recognized vaccine advocate.
