This Boeing 737 MAX has been returned to Seattle, USA.
According to Reuters, a Boeing 737 MAX aircraft that was originally about to be delivered to a Chinese airline was "returned" on Eastern Time, the 19th.
Eyewitnesses told Reuters that a Boeing 737 MAX aircraft painted in Xiamen Airlines livery landed at Boeing's production center in Seattle around 6:00 PM local time on the 19th. It is reported that at least several new 737 MAX aircraft were previously parked at Zhejiang Zhoushan factory. Boeing installs interiors and paints here before delivering the aircraft to Chinese customers. The 737 MAX aircraft returned to Seattle this time was one of these planes.
It is currently unclear which party made the decision to cancel the delivery. As of press time, neither Xiamen Airlines nor Boeing has responded.

Previously, US President Donald Trump announced on the 10th local time that the tariff on imports from China would be raised to 145%. In order to resolutely counteract the US tariff hegemony, the Tariff Commission of the State Council issued an announcement on the 11th, adjusting the tariff rate for imported goods from the United States, increasing it from 84% to 125%. The announcement clearly stated that given the current tariff levels, American products have no market acceptance possibility for Chinese importers. If the US continues to impose additional tariffs on Chinese exports, China will not take notice.
Aviation consulting company IBA said that currently, the market price of a brand-new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft is approximately $55 million (about RMB 401 million). According to the 125% tariff rate imposed by China on US products, the price of the aircraft has completely exceeded the range acceptable to airlines.
In addition, Bloomberg reported on the 15th, citing sources, that as part of its countermeasures against US tariffs, China has requested domestic airlines to stop accepting Boeing aircraft from the United States and suspend purchases of related equipment and parts. Bloomberg said this is another major setback for Boeing in one of its largest markets.
Boeing had just slowly recovered from a series of safety incidents and strike crises. The incident of the cabin door falling off since early 2024 exposed Boeing's defects, triggering a prolonged strike and strict scrutiny by regulators. Boeing subsequently replaced its CEO and began a comprehensive overhaul. However, Trump's tariff policies may drag Boeing back into trouble.
