Foreign Media: The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway has made significant progress: the first 210-meter tunnel in the Kyrgyzstan section has been successfully completed, with overall project progress reaching 17% in this segment.
This 500-kilometer railway, conceived in 1997, is a flagship project of China's Belt and Road Initiative, starting from Kashi in Xinjiang, crossing mountainous regions in Kyrgyzstan, and extending to Andijan in Uzbekistan, with approximately 305 kilometers passing through Kyrgyzstan.
Upon completion, it will become the shortest overland route for China to reach the Middle East and Europe, reducing transportation time by up to eight days compared to current transshipment routes via Russia or Kazakhstan. It will also provide a crucial trade gateway for southern Xinjiang and serve as a key strategic corridor enabling China to bypass Russia.
