South Korean media: The US drops "tariff bomb" on Vietnam, and Samsung phones are also in crisis!
On April 3rd, the South Korean media News1 published an article stating that US President Trump announced "reciprocal tariffs", which is expected to impact Samsung Electronics' smartphone sector.
It is understood that more than half of the smartphones sold by Samsung in the US market are mainly produced in Vietnam, and Vietnam will be subject to a reciprocal tariff as high as 46%.
According to estimates by the Consumer Technology Association, the price of future smartphones may increase by 37%.
In fact, simply put, this could be one factor leading to an increase in smartphone prices. In particular, it is analyzed that if competitors like Apple raise prices in the US smartphone market, it will also affect domestic prices in Korea.
Moreover, Samsung Electronics also produces popular smartphone models through the ODM (Original Design Manufacturing) method in China, which is also expected to be severely affected.
However, Samsung Electronics has not yet released an official statement and appears to be closely monitoring the impact of this tariff policy.
For Samsung Electronics, fortunately, in India, which also suffers from heavy tariff impacts (25%), Samsung Electronics can produce and supply locally.
A South Korean industry insider stated, "We may need to reassess the global supply chain in the future, but due to the fluctuations in tariffs, we have no choice but to approach this very cautiously." Even the securities sector predicts that individual countries and separate negotiations will begin from now on.
