Media: Iran Says Any Action Against Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei Would Trigger "Unlimited Response"
According to a report by Reuters citing an unnamed senior Iranian official, Iranian government officials have warned that any action against Iran's Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, would be considered as crossing all red lines and would trigger an "unlimited response".
The New York Times reported on Saturday, citing three Iranian officials, that due to concerns over assassination attempts, Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, currently communicates with military commanders primarily through a trusted aide. According to the newspaper's sources, the Supreme Leader has already designated potential successors for fallen military commanders and selected three senior religious figures as candidates for the position of Supreme Leader in the event of his own assassination.
An Iranian official told Reuters when talking about any actions against Khamenei: "For Iran, such behavior would be considered crossing all red lines and would provide justification for taking unlimited and unconstrained responses."
