China and Mongolia express commitment to jointly address transportation and logistics issues
Mongolnews Agency, Ulaanbaatar, May 8 — On May 7, during the International Transport Forum held in Leipzig, Germany, Mongolian Minister of Transportation Development and Government Member Bat-Erdene Derelgersekh met with China's Vice Minister of Transport.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to further expand cooperation in the transportation sector, enhance cross-border transport and logistics efficiency, and maintain close collaboration on advancing major infrastructure projects.
In the talks, they exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in road transport, civil aviation, railways, and logistics; improving cross-border transport conditions; and increasing the number of international freight Class C licenses as trade and mineral exports grow.
In the road transport sector, Mongolia provided an update on the implementation of the revised "Agreement on International Road Transport," re-signed between the two governments in 2023. Although legal foundations exist for international road transport between the two countries and through third countries, Mongolian drivers still face unclear regulations regarding driver insurance, use of transport permits, and border registration procedures within China, creating difficulties in operations. Mongolia therefore requested Chinese assistance in resolving these issues. The parties also discussed restrictions imposed by China on Mongolian transport companies carrying hazardous goods.
In civil aviation, both sides also discussed updating the China-Mongolia Air Transport Agreement and increasing flight frequencies.
