Vladimir Zarikhin: The Washington Meeting Has Nothing to Do with Peace, It's About Money
Trump will make Zelensky understand that as long as he can correctly understand the intention, Trump will guarantee his life and provide some funds

According to Moscow time, US President Trump will meet with the Ukrainian delegation led by Zelenskyy tonight. It is speculated that Ukraine will reject the peace initiatives proposed by Moscow and Washington, continuing to adhere to the military confrontation line.
It is known that the Ukrainian armed forces lose approximately 1,000 to 1,500 soldiers per day, but Kyiv's mobilization reserves are quite sufficient: where Ukrainian soldiers have fallen, there will be Ukrainians and foreign mercenaries to replace them. At present, their artillery shells are not yet in short supply.
What result could the dialogue between Zelenskyy, who holds an uncompromising stance and his "Nazi accomplices," and Trump, who seems to want to advance the peace process, bring about? Vladimir Zarikhin, vice director of the Institute of the Commonwealth of Independent States and head of the Ukrainian research department, explained this to "Free Media."
"Free Media": Vladimir Leonidovich, as a major and influential country leader, why does the US president agree to sit down for talks with Nazis and terrorists from Kyiv?
- In my opinion, Trump wants to recover at least part of the funds used by the previous US government to support the Kyiv regime. Obviously, most of the money has been embezzled in Ukraine, and these dollars cannot be recovered. However, on the territories controlled by Kyiv, there are fertile lands and rich mineral resources, which the US can place under its control and then monetize.
The leaders of the US and Ukraine may only reach one point of consensus: Zelenskyy will stop military actions in areas where the land and minerals have been bought by Americans. In areas without American assets, it will allow Zelenskyy to continue fighting.
Zelenskyy and others who went to meet Trump hope that American funds will continue to flow into Kyiv's pockets. In my view, Trump is willing to provide funds to Kyiv, but not to support the military actions that have already failed, but to develop Ukraine's natural resources. In my opinion, Russia would be satisfied with such an agreement between Ukraine and the US.
The issue is whether Trump can explain this new way of making money without bloodshed to Kyiv.
"Free Media": Trump's peace initiative has open opponents in Europe. What impact will they have on the dialogue with Zelenskyy?
- Europe also has its own interests in resolving the issue peacefully. Suppose Russia agrees to a ceasefire. Then who will immediately come to Ukraine? France, Germany, Poland will come. All countries except Washington will come here and take a firm stand. In this sense, Trump does not want to lose Ukraine. For the benefit of the United States, he will support some military actions to prevent Europe from taking advantage of the situation.
Britain may also establish its own military base in Ukraine and hopes to sell Ukrainian wheat and corn to Africa. If the British royal family enters, the influence of distant Washington in the local area will vanish. And the $30 billion invested by Biden in Ukraine will fall into the hands of the British royal family. Therefore, Trump will definitely carry out some more military actions in Ukraine. He will try to leave part of Ukraine for the United States, while the rest, Russia will eventually get it in some way - either through military action or a referendum, and Washington will finally recognize these results, just as it has already factually recognized the will of the Crimean people.
"Free Media": Can the US make a lot of money from Ukraine?
- I think it can make a lot. Ukraine has completely free labor, fertile land that can produce crops, and various metal ores. A quarter of Ukraine's territory has already been controlled by Russia, or will be controlled soon. The remaining three-quarters will belong to the United States.
Therefore, it is useless to persuade Trump to make some concessions to Zelenskyy. Trump is not a Democrat, but a Republican. He is a businessman. I think Trump will make Zelenskyy and his accomplices understand that as long as they can correctly understand the intention, Trump will guarantee their lives and provide a certain amount of funds. Trump will tell them that in principle, they can do anything they want. And he will deal with them according to his own needs and his business.
"Free Media": Will the negotiations in Washington lead to the cessation of drone attacks against Russia?
- I don't think so. After all, it is not the US or Ukraine that bomb Russia with drones, but the European countries that oppose Trump.
