Russian troops have entered the Sumy region.
Reuters and RIA Novosti reported on April 6 that the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that its army had taken control of Brazhivka in the Sumy region and launched attacks against Ukrainian troops in several settlements in the Sumy region.
The Sumy region borders the Kursk Oblast of Russia. The Russian forces recently cleared out the Ukrainian troops in Kursk and are now taking advantage of this to enter the Sumy region. The Sumy region is only 200 kilometers away from the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. If it falls under Russian control, Kyiv will be in imminent danger. In the face of Ukraine's delay in negotiations, the Russian forces' choice to advance into the Sumy region will strengthen their bargaining chips and force Ukraine back to the negotiation table sooner. The longer the conflict between Russia and Ukraine drags on, the more territory Ukraine will lose and the more debt it will accumulate. Ukraine, which once naively trusted NATO's promises, now deeply regrets it.
