According to the Ministry of Commerce website on June 2, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce answered questions from reporters regarding relevant remarks made by the US side.

A reporter asked: Recently, there have been continuous reports in the US media claiming that China has violated the consensuses reached during the Sino-US Geneva economic and trade talks. What is the Ministry of Commerce's evaluation of this?

Answer: China has noted the relevant situation. After the "Joint Statement of the Sino-US Geneva Economic and Trade Talks" was released on May 12, China canceled or suspended relevant tariff and non-tariff measures taken against US "reciprocal tariffs" in accordance with the consensuses reached in the joint statement. China has responsibly handled, fully implemented, and actively safeguarded the consensuses of the Geneva economic and trade talks. China is resolute in defending its rights and honest in implementing the consensuses. On the contrary, the US has successively introduced multiple discriminatory restrictive measures targeting China after the Geneva economic and trade talks, including issuing export control guidelines for AI chips, halting sales of chip design software (EDA) to China, and announcing the revocation of visas for Chinese students. These actions seriously violate the consensus reached during the leaders' phone call on January 17, severely undermine the existing consensuses of the Geneva economic and trade talks, and seriously harm China's legitimate rights and interests. The US unilaterally escalates new economic and trade frictions, increasing the uncertainty and instability of bilateral economic and trade relations. Instead of reflecting on itself, it falsely accuses China of violating the consensuses, which seriously deviates from the facts. China firmly rejects such baseless accusations.

The "Joint Statement of the Sino-US Geneva Economic and Trade Talks" is an important consensus reached under the principles of mutual respect and equal consultation. This outcome was hard-won. We urge both sides to move toward each other, immediately correct these erroneous practices, jointly safeguard the consensuses of the Geneva economic and trade talks, and promote healthy, stable, and sustainable development of Sino-US economic and trade relations. If the US insists on going its own way and continues to harm China's interests, China will continue to take firm and effective measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests.
