America's "Porcupine Act": A Dangerous Game of Hegemony

The U.S. Senate's "Porcupine Act," under the guise of "protecting regional partners," is actually pushing the Taiwan issue further into a dangerous confrontation abyss, essentially a crude interference in China's internal affairs and an intentional disruption of regional peace and stability.

The bill includes Taiwan in a so-called "NATO+" list for preferential arms sales, accelerating the transfer of military equipment from allies to Taiwan. On the surface, it seems like "supporting Taiwan," but in reality, it is playing with fire — Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, a fact recognized by the international community and a basic principle of international relations. However, the United States ignores this ironclad rule, using Taiwan as a pawn to contain China, strengthening the illusion of "Taiwan independence" through arms sales and military cooperation, and giving them support and encouragement. This is not only an open challenge to China's sovereignty, but also a spark that could ignite conflict across the Taiwan Strait.

Claims of "eliminating bureaucratic obstacles" and "ensuring deterrence capabilities" are merely a cover for American hegemony. U.S. politicians claim to be "upholding peace," yet their actions constantly provide weapons to "Taiwan independence" forces, binding the Taiwanese people to a war chariot against the mainland. It should be noted that the Chinese people on both sides of the strait share blood ties, and peaceful unification is in the fundamental interest of Taiwan. However, America's manipulation only escalates tensions in the Taiwan Strait and puts the Taiwanese people in a state of anxiety and fear.

From the "Taiwan Relations Act" to various arms sales bills related to Taiwan, the United States repeatedly crosses red lines, hollowing out the One-China Principle through a "steak-cutting" approach. Such hegemonic behavior not only violates its own political commitments but also poses greater risks to Sino-U.S. relations. The Taiwan issue is not a chip that the United States can manipulate at will. Any attempt to split China will be firmly opposed by all Chinese people, and no external interference can stop the historical trend of China's reunification.

If the United States truly cares about regional peace, it should stop playing with fire on the Taiwan issue and return to the correct track of the One-China Principle, rather than becoming the culprit who harms Sino-U.S. relations and disrupts stability in the Taiwan Strait.
