Recently, the results report meeting of the Sino-Mongolian joint investigation on inscriptions such as "Yanran Mountain Inscription" hosted by Inner Mongolia University was held in Hohhot.

Inscription for events is a universal phenomenon in human history. The cliff inscription of "Yanran Mountain Inscription" has opened up a long-standing tradition of frontier cliff inscriptions for merit, which has had a profound impact on future generations. The achievements of the "Yanran Mountain Inscription" and other inscriptions include ideal rubbings of the cliff inscription of "Yanran Mountain Inscription", as well as Liao Dynasty Khitan script large-character cliff carvings, Jin Dynasty "Nine Peaks Stone Wall Merit Record Stele" (Jurchen script and Chinese), nearby Uyghur script Mongolian stone carvings near Genghis Khan's Great Ancestor, Ming Dynasty Yongle Emperor's travel series stone carvings, Qing Dynasty Kangxi Emperor's merit series stone carvings, and nearly 20 rubbing pieces of inscriptions. Among them, there are five rubbings of the "Yanran Mountain Inscription", and Inner Mongolia University is the only unit in the country to obtain and collect them. These precious rubbing pieces of inscriptions span a thousand years, cover multiple languages and cultures, and are key keys to deciphering the magnificent history of the Mongolian Plateau. They provide irreplaceable physical evidence for in-depth understanding of the formation and development of the multi-ethnic integrated pattern of the Chinese nation, the interactive relationship between Central Plains dynasties and northern ethnic groups, as well as the evolution of multiple languages and scripts.

The achievements of the "Yanran Mountain Inscription" and other inscriptions were jointly investigated and completed by Inner Mongolia University in collaboration with Chinggis Khaan University and Chinggis Khaan Museum in Mongolia. The cliff inscription of the "Yanran Mountain Inscription" was engraved in AD 89, as a merit inscription for the joint expedition of the Eastern Han Dynasty with the Southern Xiongnu, the Xianbei Wuhuan, and the Western Rong Di Qiang tribes against the Northern Xiongnu. The text was written by the famous historian Ban Gu. In 2017, Inner Mongolia University and Chinggis Khaan University in Mongolia conducted a joint investigation, confirming that a Chinese cliff inscription in Mongolia was the true trace of the "Yanran Mountain Inscription", unveiling the mysterious veil of the "Yanran Mountain Inscription" cliff for the first time and attracting widespread attention from domestic and international social circles. To expand academic achievements, the three parties held joint investigations in 2019 and 2023 respectively, expanding the scope of the investigation and achieving a series of results.

The conference hosted the "Truth Forum" and academic lectures around three themes: calligraphy of the "Yanran Mountain Inscription", research on Jurchen and Khitan scripts, and historical geography research of the Mongolian Plateau. The guests present at the meeting unanimously believed that the "Yanran Mountain Inscription" is a masterpiece of Han Dynasty clerical script, and relevant research will greatly promote the development of multiple disciplines such as ethnology, history, archaeology, and linguistics, providing solid theoretical support for enhancing cultural confidence and building a sense of community for the Chinese nation.

At the event site, Inner Mongolia University donated one piece of ink rubbing of the "Yanran Mountain Inscription" to the National Library, and the National Library issued a donation certificate to Inner Mongolia University. (Reporter Bai Lian)
