Elon Musk made a huge advertisement for tourism in China today, posting in English: "China is awesome. I strongly encourage everyone to visit." (China is awesome. I strongly encourage people to visit.)
Musk's mother, Maye, shared her son's post, saying, "I agree. Every city has its own charm, with diverse cultural attractions to explore. The buildings and streets are clean and well-maintained. And the people are polite, hardworking, and respectful. I feel safe, so I truly enjoy traveling to China."
Foreign photography influencer Bendov replied, "This year was my first time visiting China, and it completely opened my eyes. Technology and infrastructure are incredibly advanced! People are curious and extremely friendly, and the food is among the best. China is nothing like how it's portrayed in the news—those are just propaganda."
Bendov added that he visited five cities and some rural areas across China, witnessing everything firsthand, "In many ways, it's even better than the West."
Some online users couldn’t stand hearing good things about China, but Bendov shot back, saying he has travel experience in both impoverished Eastern European cities and parts of the United States. "Both regions have poor cities and communities where people struggle to survive. At least you don’t see the massive number of homeless people seen in places like Los Angeles—the most expensive city in America, where 70,000 people live on the streets."
He also expressed his eagerness to return to China to explore more beautiful places. He said China is "very safe, unlike some areas in the U.S." His favorite part was interacting with people, especially children—who were curious and generous, giving him lots of snacks. Sharing culture in China has been truly wonderful.
I think just the sense of safety alone puts many countries' famous attractions to shame.
Without safety, your trip would be filled with painful memories and regret over not going.
When others say it’s good—it really is good.
