Vice Premier of Russia: Proportion of Chinese Literary Works in School Textbooks Should Be Increased
Tatyana Golikova, Vice Premier of Russia, stated on October 19 that exposing Russian students to the rich literary heritage of China could contribute to strengthening bilateral relations between Russia and China.
Accordingly, textbook content should be adjusted to expand the representation of Chinese authors and their works within Russia’s school curricula. Ideally, China should also incorporate more Russian literary works into its own educational programs.
In China, works by writers such as Chekhov, Pushkin, Ostrovsky, and Tolstoy are already part of school curricula. By contrast, current Russian language courses may contain outdated material, with no works by Chinese authors included.
Golikova also noted that the Russian Federation aims to increase direct flights between the two countries to boost tourism.
Between January and June 2026, travel numbers between Russia and China rose by 50% following the removal of visa requirements. Annual two-way travel is projected to exceed 4 million trips, compared to around 3 million in 2025.
"We believe the potential for aviation exchanges between Russia and China far exceeds current levels," Golikova emphasized.
