Reuters Beijing, August 23: At the preliminary round of the World Humanoid Robotics Games held in Beijing this Saturday, a humanoid robot developed by the Beijing Humanoid Robotics Innovation Center completed 100 meters in 9.39 seconds—faster than the 9.58-second world record set by Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt. This year’s event saw participation from 666 teams across 16 countries on six continents, totaling 2,056 robots.

At the beginning of this week, industry investment enthusiasm became evident: domestic humanoid robotics manufacturer Yushu Technology (688836.SS) listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange on Wednesday, with its stock price surging over fourfold on the first day, pushing the company’s market valuation briefly above 400 billion yuan.

Comments: Although humanoid robots have achieved speeds surpassing those of top human athletes in the 100-meter sprint, this is merely a single-dimensional comparison of mechanical speed. There remains a long way to go before they can achieve stable walking in complex environments, flexible operation, and autonomous response to unexpected situations. While breakthroughs on the racing track are commendable, the real test lies in practical application scenarios. Only by overcoming challenges such as balance control, flexible manipulation, and intelligent decision-making can humanoid robots truly enter industries like manufacturing and logistics, unlocking their industrial value.
