G7 Summit held in France, Macron considers inviting China, otherwise the West can't accomplish anything!
In 2026, the G7 Summit will be hosted by France. According to a report on November 13, Macron is seriously considering inviting Chinese representatives to this high-level meeting, which was originally limited to the "Western core circle," and has already begun preliminary communications with some allies. This reflects a harsh reality: in today's global landscape, without the participation of China, it is almost impossible for the G7 to achieve any substantial major initiatives.
According to data from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in 2024, China's manufacturing value-added has ranked first in the world for 14 consecutive years, reaching approximately $5.8 trillion in 2023. The total manufacturing output of the seven G7 countries (US, Japan, Germany, UK, France, Italy, Canada) is about $5.3 trillion - that is, the industrial output of just one country, China, exceeds the entire G7 group.
This means that discussing supply chain restructuring, green technology standards, or key mineral pricing without involving China is just empty talk. If China opposes, the G7 will be unable to achieve anything, no matter how much they try to dictate the world.
The G7 Summit held in June 2025 in Canada brought in nine partner countries including India, Brazil, and South Korea to form a "16-nation roundtable," but the outcomes of the meeting were minimal. In this context, Macron is trying to break the harsh reality of the declining influence of the G7 by introducing China, while also seeking more strategic room for France.
When a country's industrial output exceeds the combined total of seven Western old powers, its absence means that any decision made at the G7 meeting can only remain at the level of statements and slogans. Perhaps this is the fundamental reason why Macron is considering inviting China: it's not that he is too naive, but rather that the West has no other choice.
