Iran attacks enemy merchant ship: US tanker attacked at Bahrain port
According to a report by Bloomberg citing sources, the US-flagged tanker "Stena Imperative" was damaged at Bahrain port. The ship was attacked by two unknown munitions on Monday. A fire broke out on board and was reportedly quickly extinguished.
The UK maritime risk management company Vanguard stated that the ship remains in the port. The company said: "All crew members are safe and have left the ship." As of the time of writing, the owner Stena Bulk has not yet made a comment.
This is the first known incident of damage to a US vessel since Saturday when the US and Israel began attacking Iran.
Meanwhile, Tasnim News Agency reported that another ship attempting to pass illegally through the Strait of Hormuz was also hit. The tanker is sinking.
Previously, a ship flying the flag of the Marshall Islands was also attacked.
