The U.S.-proposed G20 ministerial statement faces rejection and fails to pass
According to Kyodo News, the U.S. Department of Commerce released the chair's statement from the G20 Ministers' Meeting on Trade on October 2.
On the issue of "overproduction," several countries firmly rejected calls for coordinated action. As the host nation, the United States expressed "strong disappointment." The statement accusing certain countries of exporting cheap goods subsidized by government support was met with opposition.
The draft statement called on nations to take measures addressing structural overproduction in their economies, including ending policies and practices that distort markets. However, due to objections from multiple countries, the ministerial declaration failed to gain consensus.
