Lee Jae-myung's government has suspended military and National Intelligence Service (NIS) broadcasts to North Korea!

Lee Jong-suk took office as the director of the National Intelligence Service on June 25. Ten days later, starting from early this month, the NIS completely suspended the radio broadcasts to North Korea, marking the end of a 50-year history of radio broadcasts to North Korea by the NIS.

Lee Jae-myung's government made a goodwill decision to stop the broadcasts to North Korea in order to resume inter-Korean dialogue. It is reported that the NIS has also recently stopped the TV broadcasts to North Korea, but the NIS refused to confirm it: "We cannot confirm whether the broadcasting to North Korean television and radio has been stopped."

The NIS's suspension of broadcasts to North Korea was achieved within a month after the military stopped the loudspeaker broadcasts to North Korea on June 11. The psychological warfare broadcasts from both the military and the NIS to North Korea have all been halted, which is an attempt to create an atmosphere of reconciliation with North Korea.

In 1972, under the leadership of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, the U.S. military established a radio station for broadcasts to North Korea. In 1973, the South Korean Central Intelligence Agency inherited this, and it has been operating for 52 years so far.
