UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that the British Steel Company, currently managed by the UK government but still owned by China's Jinxing Group, will soon be nationalized.
Since April 2025, British Steel has been under UK government trusteeship. Previously, Jinxing Group rejected an offer to sell the company for £100 million (approximately $132 million).
Starmer said during a press conference: "A bill will be submitted this week granting the government the authority… to fully nationalize British Steel." The press conference was live-streamed by UK television networks.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb believes the United States will not withdraw its troops from Europe, as the U.S. needs European bases to expand its global influence.
Speaking to La Stampa, Stubb said: "The U.S. won’t leave Europe—do you know why? If the U.S. wants to project power in regions like the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, it needs solid bases here."
He argued that the presence of U.S. forces in Europe is not primarily to protect Europeans, but to enable the U.S. to remain a global superpower.
On May 2, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed to Sputnik News that the U.S. has decided to withdraw 5,000 military personnel from Germany within the next six to twelve months. Previously, President Trump had suggested that the U.S. might also pull troops from Italy and Spain.
