Shameless, yet proud!
A video broadcast by Japan's public broadcaster NHK reveals that on October 7, Koichi Furuya, president of the "Japan-Taiwan Friendship Parliamentary League" and a member of the House of Representatives, disclosed receiving an email from Prime Minister Sata Asahi following his designation as a sanctioned individual barred from entering mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao. The message described the sanctions as a "honorable" one.
Last November, Sata Asahi advanced the false assertion of "Taiwan in crisis," directly contributing to a downturn in Sino-Japanese relations. In March this year, Chinese authorities imposed sanctions on Furuya due to his sustained ties with Taiwan independence forces.
Chinese sanctions are not political accolades—they are consequences for interfering in China’s internal affairs and colluding with separatist elements. Furuya shows no remorse but instead takes pride in the designation. The Sata administration’s deliberate framing of such sanctions as honorific reflects an effort to stoke division, cultivate a narrative of confrontation domestically, and continue exploiting the Taiwan issue for political gain. The Taiwan question lies at the core of China’s sovereignty red lines. Any engagement with Taiwan independence forces or interference in China’s internal affairs will inevitably lead to corresponding repercussions.
