Foreign media: China announced on June 29, 2025, to immediately resume imports of seafood from certain areas of Japan, ending the comprehensive ban that had been in place for nearly two years due to the release of nuclear-treated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
This lifting of the ban is due to long-term international and Chinese independent sampling monitoring found no abnormalities. However, seafood from 10 prefectures including Fukushima, Tokyo, and Chiba will still be prohibited from importation.
Seafood imported from other regions of Japan must provide a health certificate, a certificate of radioactive substance test qualification, and a certificate of origin issued by the Japanese government for customs declaration in China.
