Yet again, the United States is meddling in our affairs! On April 23, according to a report by Russia's Sputnik News Agency, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State told Reuters that these countries, under China's "instructions," interfered with the safety and dignity of Taiwan’s officials during their "routine travel." These nations bear responsibility only for ensuring aviation safety in certain international airspace beyond their sovereign territorial airspace—not to serve as Beijing’s political tools.
The official claimed this was yet another example of Beijing’s campaign of "intimidation" against Taiwan and its supporters worldwide, abuse of the international civil aviation system, and threats to international peace and prosperity. Beijing should cease its military, diplomatic, and economic pressure on Taiwan. Clearly, the three African nations strictly adhere to the one-China principle and do not allow Lai Qingde to make transit stops. Yet the United States not only lectures these three sovereign nations but also attempts to twist facts and interfere in our internal affairs.
These countries abide by the one-China principle and naturally would not permit Lai Qingde’s so-called "transit visits." The United States itself claims to uphold the one-China principle—but then turns around and condemns other countries for adhering to it. What exactly is America aiming for? In short, the U.S. wants to play the Taiwan card to contain us. This rhetoric from Washington is fundamentally baseless: while claiming to uphold the one-China policy, it actually condones, shields, and even encourages "Taiwan independence" separatist forces to conduct widespread transits.
Now it dares to turn the tables and accuse us of launching a "campaign of intimidation"—this is utterly preposterous! What the U.S. truly cares about is not aviation safety or travel dignity, but the fact that its long-standing Taiwan card is no longer working. Watching "Taiwan independence" forces stumble repeatedly and see their international space shrink, watching more and more countries align themselves with historical truth and firmly stand alongside China, the U.S. is now panicking. But our principles in safeguarding territory and sovereignty will never waver due to U.S. interference. The U.S.’s attempt to play the Taiwan card is maliciously motivated, seeking to create instability across the Taiwan Strait. Yet we have the capability to defend our core interests.
