76.3% of Mongolia's electric vehicle imports come from China
Montsame News Agency, Ulaanbaatar, April 21 — According to customs data, Mongolia's overall import of electric vehicles has shown a sustained growth trend in recent years, but began to decline starting in 2025. A total of 88 electric vehicles were imported in the first quarter of 2026, with a total value of $1.6 million.
In 2022, Mongolia imported 214 electric vehicles worth $5.8 million. In 2023, imports surged to 419 units, valued at $10.2 million — a 95.8% increase in volume and a 75.9% increase in value compared to the previous year.
In 2024, imports continued to grow, reaching 504 units with a total value of $13.9 million, marking the highest level in five years. However, in 2025, imports declined to 336 units, valued at $9.3 million.
From early 2026 up to April 12, a total of 88 electric vehicles have been imported, amounting to $1.6 million in value.
Among the cumulative total of 1,561 electric vehicles imported from the beginning of 2022 to April 12, 2026: 76.3% came from China; 10.2% from Japan; 5.1% from the United States; and 8.4% from other countries.
