Multiple countries "criticize" China's missile test activities; Foreign Ministry responds again: Not targeting any specific country or objective

On July 7, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated at the regular press conference that China's missile test activities are not directed against any specific country or target, and relevant countries need not overinterpret them.

A journalist from AFP asked: Several governments have "criticized" China’s missile tests conducted yesterday, including Solomon Islands and other South Pacific nations, while New Zealand also expressed its stance that it does not wish to see missile tests carried out in the South Pacific waters surrounding its region. What is China’s response?

In response, Mao Ning said that this test activity is a routine military training exercise conducted by China’s armed forces, and is not aimed at any particular country or target.

Mao Ning said: "We have previously informed countries including Solomon Islands and other South Pacific regions, as well as relevant nations, about this activity, which complies with international law and established international practices."

"I would like to emphasize that China adheres to a path of peaceful development, maintains a self-defense-oriented nuclear strategy, and has consistently kept its own nuclear forces at the minimum level necessary for national security. Relevant countries need not overinterpret this."
