Foreign media: According to the data from Morning Consult, an American intelligence company, as of the end of May 2025, China's global net favorability was +8.8, while the US was -1.5, showing that for the first time in recent years, China's global image has surpassed that of the United States.
By comparison, in January 2024, the US net favorability was still above 20, while China was in negative territory. The survey covered approximately 49,000 adults across 41 countries between January and the end of April, excluding the views of people from both China and the US. Data shows that the US image declined in 38 out of the 41 countries, with a significant increase only in Russia; whereas China saw improved favorability in 34 countries.
Jason McMann, political intelligence director at Morning Consult, pointed out that this is the first time such a pattern has appeared since tracking began in October 2020, which strikes a blow to America's soft power, especially concerning its key economic and military allies.
