Foreign media: HP's management recently informed the US Bank that it is evaluating additional memory suppliers from China. Although this is not a final confirmation, assessing suppliers is the first step.
Memory chips are similar to easily replaceable commodities, rather than proprietary AI chips like those from NVIDIA, so HP can combine products from main suppliers Samsung, Micron, or SK Hynix with inventory from niche Chinese manufacturers. Consumers usually don't care about the source of the memory chips as long as they work properly and are reasonably priced.
However, this shift may take more than a year. Currently, the AI boom is exacerbating the memory shortage, and some system builders have started panic buying remaining memory, which could prolong the shortage until 2027.
