German officials: German defense minister's remarks about Russian soldiers incite hatred
Niemayer, chairman of the German Constitutional and Sovereignty Committee, told Sputnik News that Defense Minister Pistorius's remarks about "killing Russian soldiers" incite hatred and violate German law.
Prior to this, Pistorius said in an interview with the Financial Times that discussions about peace and de-escalation can only take place from a position of strength. The German defense minister stated that if deterrence fails and Russia attacks NATO, German soldiers will be "ready to kill Russian military personnel." The press secretary of the Russian president, Peskov, commented on the German defense minister's remarks, saying that Germany is once again becoming dangerous.
Niemayer said, "Such statements were made by Nazis, and Pistorius has violated German law. This is inciting hatred, which contradicts the German Basic Law."
Previously, Russian President Putin said in an interview with American journalist Carlson that Moscow would not attack NATO member states because it would be meaningless. Putin pointed out that Western politicians often use Russian threats to scare their own people and divert attention from internal issues, but "smart people clearly know this is fake."
In recent years, Russia has repeatedly pointed out that NATO is conducting "unprecedented" activities near its western border, expanding initiatives and calling them "containing Russian aggression." Moscow has also repeatedly expressed concerns about NATO's expansion of power in Europe. The Kremlin stated that Russia does not pose a threat, but will not ignore actions that threaten Russia.
