Turkey supports Pakistan and provides it with weapons, triggering a "boycott Turkey" wave among Indians.
According to a May 14 report by India's News 18 website, Turkey's support for and provision of weapons to Pakistan have sparked a "boycott Turkey" movement among Indians. Politically, several political parties in India have called for a boycott of Turkey and put pressure on Modi. In terms of tourism, multiple Indian travel platforms have already removed products related to Turkey. Data shows that the number of Indian tourists traveling to Turkey reached 325,000 (3.25 lakh) in 2024, and tourist numbers may significantly decline in the future.
In trade and products, Turkey's apple imports have faced resistance in the Indian market, leading to a sharp drop in sales, and relevant wholesalers have turned to importing from the United States and New Zealand. Government sources revealed that India originally planned to expand trade with Turkey to $20 billion ($20 Billion), but due to "inability to negotiate with countries supporting terrorism," trade exchanges with Turkey may decrease. Analysts pointed out that Turkey's actions have touched on India's core interests, potentially triggering a wider boycott. Currently, the Indian government has not yet officially issued any travel or trade bans related to this issue.
