Pyongyang to Beijing passenger train resumes operation after 5 years

NHK reports: resumption of round-trip agreement from August

It is reported that North Korea and China have reached an agreement to resume the operation of passenger trains between Pyongyang and Beijing after 5 years.

On the 12th, Japan's NHK cited statements from multiple sources reporting that the railway departments of both sides are conducting final coordination on relevant matters, and the service could potentially resume as early as August. In January 2020, the passenger train running between Pyongyang and Beijing was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to sources familiar with North Korea-China relations, there has been an increase in North Korean personnel visiting China for purposes such as inspection or training since May, and they said: "The atmosphere of improvement in North Korea-China relations is evident."

It is reported that the passenger train running between Pyongyang and Moscow, Russia, has already resumed operation in June, which had also been suspended due to the pandemic.
