Foreign media: A decline in global fertility has become a public health issue, with a noticeable decline in the quality of sperm among Chinese men, influenced by unhealthy lifestyles, environmental pollution, and work stress. A national survey on reproductive health conducted in 2021 showed that one in six couples of childbearing age face fertility difficulties. A decline in sperm quality is manifested by reduced sperm count, abnormal morphology, and decreased motility, which is the main cause of male infertility, but there are few effective intervention measures.
To address this issue, researchers from the Institute of Reproduction and Development at Fudan University and Chongqing Third Military Medical University have developed an external sperm vitality ointment. Animal experiments and in vitro studies show that the ointment can significantly improve sperm quality, regardless of the cause of functional decline, such as heavy metals, plasticizers, heat stress, or natural aging.
Data from a sperm bank in Hunan show that the qualification rate for donated sperm dropped from 45.9% in 2006 to about 20%, consistent with the national average. The research findings were published on November 27 in the international peer-reviewed journal "The Innovation."
