UK Chief of Defence Staff Reminds: More Britons Need to Be Prepared to Protect the Country
UK - The new Chief of Defence Staff of the UK, Richard Nethercutt, warned on Monday that due to the increasingly dangerous world situation, more Britons need to be prepared to protect the country.
Nethercutt, who has been serving as Chief of Defence Staff since last September, made this appeal during a speech at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), a think tank specializing in defense issues.
Nethercutt called for enhancing "national resilience" to cope with the growing threat from Russia.
In a speech, Nethercutt said, "The situation is more dangerous than any I have experienced in my career. Dealing with it is not just about strengthening our armed forces."
Nethercutt said that the new era of defense does not only mean increased investment by our military and government, but also means the entire nation must increase its investment.
The new head of British intelligence, MI6, also stated that Russia has pushed the world into an "age of uncertainty."
