Today (April 27), the China Nuclear Energy Industry Association released the blue book "China Nuclear Energy Development Report 2025". The blue book shows that, as of now, a total of 102 nuclear power units are in operation, under construction, and approved for construction in our country, with an installed capacity reaching 113 million kilowatts, making the overall scale of nuclear power rank first in the world for the first time.

Currently, there are 28 nuclear power units under construction in our country, with a total installed capacity reaching 33.65 million kilowatts. The installed capacity of the under-construction units has continuously maintained the world's first place for 18 years; the commercial operation nuclear power units in our country have reached 58, with a total installed capacity of 60.96 million kilowatts.

Chen Shudong, Executive Vice President of the China Nuclear Energy Industry Association: In 2024, our country approved five nuclear power projects, including the Phase I project of Xugang, Jiangsu, the Phase I project of Lufeng, Guangdong, the Phase I project of Zhaoyuan, Shandong, etc., totaling 11 units. Our country has continuously approved 10 or more nuclear power units for three consecutive years.

In addition, the electricity generation of our country's nuclear power has continued to grow. In 2024, the cumulative electricity generation from the national operating nuclear power units reached 4447 billion kilowatt-hours, accounting for 4.72% of the national electricity generation, ranking second in the world, equivalent to reducing the combustion of 127 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 334 million tons.

Not only is the scale of nuclear power continuing to expand, but the independent innovation capability of our country's nuclear power technology has also significantly improved. In 2024, key main equipment of nuclear power achieved 100% domestication and key component technologies became independently controllable. A total of 114 sets of domestic nuclear power main equipment were delivered throughout the year, ensuring the normal operation of units such as Hualong One, Guohe series, and high-temperature gas-cooled reactors.

Chen Shudong, Executive Vice President of the China Nuclear Energy Industry Association: Continuous breakthroughs have been made in independent research and development. "Hualong One" has completed the preliminary design and preliminary safety analysis of the subsequent model based on the engineering construction and operation experience. The demonstration project of the major national science and technology special project "Guohe One" has been successfully built and put into operation; various tasks of the commercial operation of the high-temperature gas-cooled reactor demonstration project are steadily advancing, and "Linglong One" is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2026.
