Trump: "If TSMC does not build a factory in the U.S., we will impose a 100% tariff!"

On April 9, a South Korean media outlet, "Asiae," published an article stating that U.S. President Donald Trump threatened that if TSMC fails to fulfill its commitment to establish a new factory in the United States, it will face tariffs as high as 100%.

Recently, President Trump criticized the decision of the previous Biden administration to provide $6.6 billion in subsidies to TSMC through the "Semiconductor Act."

Trump said, "I didn't give TSMC any money. I just said that if you don't build a factory here, you will have to pay high taxes." Last month, TSMC CEO Zee Chia Hau announced a $100 billion investment plan in the U.S. at a joint press conference with President Trump after their meeting.

President Trump stated that the U.S. makes $2 billion daily from tariffs, adding, "Many countries have exploited us severely, but now it's our turn to exploit."

President Trump also mentioned that many countries would do everything possible to reach new trade agreements with the U.S.

Regarding car imports, he mentioned South Korea and Japan, claiming, "U.S. warships have patrolled the world for 70 years, U.S. soldiers have maintained peace, and the U.S. has enriched the world. Despite providing everything to everyone, you can't find American cars in Berlin, Tokyo, Seoul, or Shanghai."
