Former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama has fallen out with his son over attending the Beijing victory commemoration event.

According to Japanese media reports, Kichiro Hatoyama, a member of the House of Representatives of the People's Democratic Party (49 years old), updated his X (formerly Twitter) before the 29th. "I asked my father to cancel the attendance," in response to his father, former Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama (78 years old), who announced that he would attend the commemorative event marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance against Japan in Beijing on September 3rd.

Kichiro Hatoyama mentioned his father, citing an article that stated that Yukio Hatoyama would attend the commemorative event which will include a military parade, and emphasized, "For the Japanese people, it is most important to always be prepared for the maximum strategic measures, focusing on deterrence, while learning from history so as not to repeat the tragedy of war. Most importantly, he reminded that, from this perspective, the former Japanese Prime Minister does not need to attend the Chinese government's victory commemorative event. Yukio Hatoyama's attendance at the commemorative event was announced by the Chinese government on the 28th.

Here is Kichiro Hatoyama's social media post: "I have requested my father not to attend. For the Japanese people, it is most important to learn seriously what should be learned from history in order to prevent the tragedy of war from happening again, and to always be fully prepared strategically with a focus on deterrence. From this perspective, the former Japanese Prime Minister does not need to attend the Chinese government's victory commemorative event."
