Russian Foreign Ministry: US tariffs are unlikely to affect trade between India and Russia
Sputnik Vladivostok, September 4 - During an interview with Sputnik, the head of the Department for Economic Cooperation at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Birychevsky, stated that the US import tariffs on Indian goods are unlikely to affect trade between India and Russia.
Birychevsky said during the 2025 Eastern Economic Forum: "In fact, Washington hopes India will stop buying Russian oil and instead buy American oil, but American oil cannot compete fairly in terms of price and quality. Imposing a 25% import tariff will inevitably have a negative impact on Indo-US trade, but it will hardly have a significant adverse effect on our trade with India."
Additionally, Birychevsky pointed out that Russia is taking continuous measures to expand channels for Indian goods entering the Russian market.
Birychevsky emphasized: "Negotiations are also underway regarding the agreement to establish a free trade zone between India and the Eurasian Economic Union. Indian goods are very popular globally and can easily find new buyers."
The 10th Eastern Economic Forum was held in Vladivostok from September 3 to 6.
