Sputnik News, Cairo, March 23 — Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry spoke by phone with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, discussing efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement saying: "On March 23, Shoukry held a phone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, continuing consultations and coordination on the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East and ongoing efforts to de-escalate it."
The statement noted that Shoukry emphasized the need for continued regional and international efforts to calm the situation in the region, adding that prolonging the conflict would lead to serious consequences.
The message stated that the foreign ministers also discussed the situation in Gaza and the crisis in Ukraine.
