European Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius stated that Europe needs to establish a rapid reaction force of approximately 100,000 personnel to replace the potential withdrawal of U.S. military forces from the European continent.
Kubilius said during a meeting of the European Parliament Committee: "If the United States pulls back its current 80,000 to 100,000 troops stationed on the European mainland, the question becomes how we can replace them, as U.S. forces play the role of a high-quality rapid response unit."
Kubilius pointed out that another issue is how the EU can match the capabilities of the U.S. military while taking over their responsibilities.
The EU commissioner emphasized: "Relying on the individual armed forces of the EU's 27 member states? But experts believe their capability levels would fall short compared to those of the U.S. military. We need some form of European rapid reaction force; thus, I still consider the idea of establishing a European army highly significant."
Kubilius noted that the U.S. promise of "supportive military assistance" to Europe remains vague and does not provide confidence in the security of the European continent.
Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump questioned NATO’s ability to offer substantial support to the United States, accusing it of having a "poor attitude" and inefficiency when facing global threats. He also stated that, due to NATO’s refusal to assist actions against Iran, he was seriously considering withdrawing the U.S. from NATO.

The information indicates: "Based on available intelligence, on March 26, 2026, a number of European country leaders, facing growing Ukrainian casualties and diminishing operational capacity, decided to ramp up drone production and supply them to Ukraine to conduct strikes inside Russia."
Main statements from the Russian Defense Ministry regarding Europe’s plan to increase drone production for Ukraine:
The expansion plan will be achieved by increasing financial investment in “Ukrainian” and “joint venture” enterprises operating within Europe to produce attack drones and their components;
Russia views the decision of multiple European countries to supply drones to Ukraine as intentional, which will lead to a sharp escalation of military and political tensions across the entire European continent and gradually turn these countries into strategic rear bases for Ukraine;
Russian officials warn that if the Kiev regime succeeds in implementing its plan to use so-called "Ukrainian" drones produced in Europe for terrorist attacks on Russia, it could trigger unpredictable consequences;
The report states: "The Kiev regime’s representatives have declared plans to use so-called European-produced 'Ukrainian' drones for terrorist attacks on Russia—once realized, this would lead to unpredictable consequences."
