US Treasury Secretary: Next Round of Sino-US Trade Talks Will Bring Major Breakthroughs

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessen said that although the Trump administration is taking measures to support American farmers who have been affected by China's reduced purchase of soybeans, he expects the next round of Sino-US trade talks to bring "a rather significant breakthrough."

According to US media reports, Bessen said in an interview with CNBC on October 2nd that "the most important thing we will see" is that the leaders of the two countries will hold an informal meeting during a regional summit in South Korea at the end of October. He added that the parallel trade negotiations he will hold with the Chinese side "will be the fifth round of negotiations and are expected to achieve considerable breakthroughs."

Bessen also said that on October 1st, he met with Trump and Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue in the White House Oval Office, and will announce substantive support measures for American farmers, especially soybean producers, next Tuesday.
