Putin's Sharp Remarks on the West: Breaking the UN Charter and Unleashing the "Genie from the Bottle"
Putin: The West Violates the UN Charter, Unleashing the "Genie from the Bottle"
Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with naval personnel, pointed out that Western countries have directly violated the Charter of the United Nations, thereby personally unleashing the "genie from the bottle." He used this metaphor to describe the evolution of global circumstances following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
Putin emphasized that the Charter of the United Nations was originally the foundation of international rules, established collectively by specific nations. However, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the situation underwent a fundamental change—Russia, as one of the founding nations of the international system, no longer existed (referring to the USSR). He explained that the United States and the entire Western bloc, self-proclaimed victors of the Cold War, began attempting to rewrite the rules. They questioned why a Russia that had lost some of its potential should still enjoy the same rights as the victorious powers of World War II.
Putin said that the West soon moved from words to actions, citing the Yugoslav crisis as an example. He stated: "I won't pass judgment now—it was a complex process. But decisions at the time, such as dividing the Serbian people into different ethnic regions... completely violated the Charter of the United Nations. No, they were purely about unleashing the genie from the bottle."
