2025 Munich Motor Show Opens, Facing Intense Competition from Chinese Manufacturing
The 2025 Munich IAA Mobility Show opened today, Monday, September 8, as the European automotive industry faces declining sales and intense competition from increasing Chinese-made vehicles.
Amid a decline in European car sales, the much-anticipated biennial 2025 Munich Motor Show opened today, with German automakers facing increasingly fierce competition from Chinese-made cars. Meanwhile, French automaker Renault hopes its new Clio model will turn the situation around.
Despite a difficult global economic situation, this Munich Motor Show has rekindled hope for the entire European automotive industry.
New car sales across France and the entire Europe have been sluggish, with a decrease of 3 million units between the first half of 2019 and the first half of 2025.
German manufacturers and the Renault brand in France are hoping to stand out at this motor show. Everyone is watching European traditional major brands such as Mercedes, Volkswagen, BMW, and Audi. These European automakers currently face challenges from high tariffs in the United States, especially the decline in sales in China, the world's largest automotive market.
At this Munich Motor Show, 11 Chinese automakers are participating, such as CATL, which has established production bases in Germany, Hungary, and Spain in Europe.
However, German automaker BMW hopes to make a strong comeback with its new Neue Klasse electric sedan series, launching the new electric vehicle iX3, which has a range of 800 kilometers, a 30% faster charging speed, and an interior design featuring screens, eliminating all buttons.
In addition, French automaker Renault also launched a new fuel-efficient Clio car, which is currently the best-selling model of Renault in the European market.
