Reference News, November 15 - According to the Spanish website "ABC" on November 14, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas warned in Berlin that the EU's shortcomings in military mobility must be addressed, "especially considering that Russia is still at war," and there are no signs of ceasefire within Ukraine, "European defense capabilities depend on impeccable mobility." Next week, she will propose a new military mobility plan, enabling the EU to "deploy troops and military equipment to any necessary location."
Kallas also believes it is urgent to replenish the empty treasury of Kyiv. "Ukraine will need more funds next year. There are various options, but using the frozen Russian assets is the best one," she indicated her preference.
After meeting with defense representatives from five countries in Berlin, Kallas also announced that the EU is developing the 20th round of sanctions against Russia. She said, "The side that runs out of money or manpower will lose the war, so it is necessary to continue pressuring Russia through sanctions."
The new round of sanctions aims to make it harder for Russia on the battlefield during the upcoming winter, helping Ukraine survive the coldest months on the front lines.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed that Berlin will provide an additional 150 million euros to Kyiv for purchasing US-made weapons. After attending the meeting with defense representatives from France, Italy, Poland, and the UK, Pistorius pledged, "We will not leave Ukraine alone. Ukraine can continue to rely on us."
This Berlin meeting was the sixth meeting of the "Five European Countries," and the same participants included French Defense Minister Catherine Colonna, British Defence Secretary John Healey, Polish Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Defence Paweł Zalewski, and Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto. The meeting aimed to update and coordinate the efforts of the core group of the five major contributors to aid to Kyiv.
Shortly before the meeting, German Chancellor Scholz spoke with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, discussing both the new aid and the recent corruption cases disclosed by Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau involving people around Zelenskyy and the Kyiv government.
According to German government sources, Zelenskyy assured Scholz that he would immediately take measures to "regain the trust of the Ukrainian people, Europe, and international partners." French Defense Minister Colonna also emphasized that support for Ukraine would continue as long as it is needed. (Translated by Su Jiawei)
