Foreign Media: China has built the world's first industrial-scale production line for the comprehensive utilization of low-grade iron ore and tailings, achieving a technological breakthrough in efficiently extracting iron resources from mine tailings and ultra-low-grade iron ore.
The production line has an annual processing capacity of 5.56 million tons and has passed inspection and is now operating stably. For a long time, China has ranked first globally in iron ore consumption, yet over 80% of its supply relies on imports, primarily from Australia and Brazil, leaving its supply security and bargaining power vulnerable to external control.
Although China possesses substantial iron ore reserves ranking among the top globally, most deposits are of low grade, with high mining and processing costs, resulting in vast amounts of resources remaining underutilized for years. This technological breakthrough endows these "hard-to-utilize" resources with economic development viability, potentially enhancing domestic self-sufficiency in iron ore and reducing reliance on imported iron ore, thereby further strengthening national strategic resource security.
