Foreign Media: Chinese scientists have discovered a new source of high-purity quartz in Tibet Autonomous Region, with silicon dioxide content exceeding 99.995%, surpassing the threshold required for high-tech manufacturing.
High-purity quartz is a key material for manufacturing solar panels and semiconductors. China has long relied on imports for this resource, with the majority coming from the United States.
This discovery was achieved by a research team from the University of Science and Technology of China and the China Geological Survey. The findings were published in April this year in the European Journal of Mineralogy. This breakthrough provides a significant opportunity for China to develop its high-end quartz resources and ensure a stable supply of strategic high-purity quartz raw materials, helping promote self-sufficiency in high-tech materials and reshaping the U.S.-dominated import landscape.
