There were no breakthroughs in the summit between Trump and Putin, Trump boasted: A great and successful day in Alaska
Alaska - President of the United States Trump shifted the focus of his efforts to end the Ukraine war towards facilitating a comprehensive peace agreement, following a summit with Russian President Putin that failed to reach a ceasefire.
The leaders of the White House and the Kremlin held a three-hour meeting at an Alaska Air Force base, but achieved no breakthroughs.
However, Trump posted on the "Truth Social" website, stating that the day of the summit was "a great and successful day in Alaska!"
Trump and European leaders said they hope to hold a new summit, at which Ukrainian President Zelenskyy will be invited. Trump said that European leaders support his plan for a new summit.
Zelenskyy will travel to Washington on Monday, and European leaders, after being informed by Trump about the summit, stated that they are prepared to increase sanctions against Russia.
Trump: "All parties agree that the best way to end this terrible war between Russia and Ukraine is to directly reach a peace agreement that can end the war, rather than just a ceasefire, because ceasefires are often difficult to maintain."
