Boasberg of the District of Columbia federal district court approved Sinopharm's preliminary injunction request on Friday, blocking the U.S. Department of Defense from implementing its designation of Sinopharm as a Chinese military-industrial complex company, stating that the company "has demonstrated that the designation is likely arbitrary and capricious." The judge noted in the filing that "the designation is causing harm to Sinopharm, and such harm cannot be remedied through post-facto remedies." Given that "the other injunction factors also favor the plaintiff, the court will grant the motion and issue a preliminary injunction prohibiting the defendant from enforcing or allowing the designation to take effect." Sinopharm welcomed the court's ruling. The company derived approximately three-quarters of its sales last year from its U.S. business.
