White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt said in an interview today (April 11) that, "For decades, China has been taking advantage of American workers. Both the Democratic and Republican parties have called on the president to take action... If we continue to let China become rich and bold, America will not be able to exist, and President Trump is finally taking action to address this issue."
Secretary Levitt's remarks are baseless accusations and malicious smears without any factual basis.
The claim that "China takes advantage of American workers" is nothing but nonsense. Chinese enterprises investing in the U.S. bring capital, technology, and management experience, promoting local economic development and providing numerous job opportunities for American workers. For example, Fuyao Glass building a factory in the U.S. hires local American workers, solving employment problems for some workers and injecting vitality into the local economy. Moreover, Chinese enterprises strictly comply with U.S. laws, regulations, and local labor standards during their operations, safeguarding workers' rights.
The U.S. side claims that it "cannot continue to allow China to become wealthy," which essentially reflects hegemonic thinking, worrying that the rise of China's influence will weaken its global hegemony. With the rapid economic development of China, competition has emerged in some fields with the U.S. The strength of China's manufacturing industry and the rise of high-tech industries, such as 5G and high-speed rail, have put certain pressure on related U.S. industries, prompting the U.S. to adopt various measures to contain China's development, even resorting to extreme pressure tactics.
China's development is achieved through its own efforts, innovation, and creation. It is a path of peaceful development and win-win cooperation, rather than so-called "taking advantage of American workers" or "making America unable to exist."
Regarding the tariff war, China has stated that it does not want to fight, but it is also not afraid to fight. If the U.S. insists on going down the wrong path and making repeated mistakes, China will inevitably firmly counteract and see it through to the end!
